Does anyone else feel like this winter lasted an eternity? I personally can’t remember what the color green even looks like. But spring has finally sprung and every crocus and daffodil I see is bringing a little bit more warmth and color into my life. And although the flowers are blooming and the peepers are peeping, the temperature hasn’t quite decided yet that springtime is here, so I’m still seeking out the rest of my warmth indoors.
If you’re anything like me, and you’ve ever stepped foot inside Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck, then you already know that the immediate urge to start Instagramming is very strong. The space has always been bright and inviting, (which is unsurprising if you’ve ever met the owner Carolyn, since she’s the brightest and most inviting of them all). Now, after a small renovation, they’ve achieved the perfect combination of retro and farmhouse chic, with diner-style barstools, penny tile floors, and barn wood cabinets and shelving. Every corner is begging for a photograph.
There’s one corner in particular though, that certainly gets the most attention, Instagram-wise. Above the corner table of the banquette, there’s a sign that reads, “Love goes on and on”. And at LLK, it really does. If you’re lucky enough to snag that seat, make sure you have your dining partner get a shot of you with the sign. Or have your server take one of the both of you; judging by the amount of photos I’ve seen in this corner, you definitely won’t be the first to ask!
If you’ve read this blog before, you already know that I am a firm believer in the overhead food shot. While I don’t always stand on my chair, I’ve been known to hoist myself up on the rungs of a barstool, just to get that little bit of extra height. Believe me, it makes a difference! Every plate of food at LLK deserves the overhead shot. It’s all beautifully plated, from the eggs to the salads to the sandwiches. Even the fries and onion rings deserve the spotlight!
It seems like these days, no restaurant is complete without at least a hint of chalk art, whether it’s a sign, a menu, or a mural, and Love Lane Kitchen is no exception. Carolyn commissioned local chalk celebrity, Kara Hoblin, to draw a quote by a beloved late family member, reminding us all to “Live a beautiful life”. Take a photo and post it to your story to remind others in your life to do the same! The mural sits above the doors to the kitchen, opposite the front door, so it’s the first thing you see upon entering. In true Kara form, every letter in the word “beautiful” is brimming with flowers and greenery, and it really does make you pause to reflect on how beautiful life can be.
If you’re a local North Forker, it’s unlikely that you’ve never visited Love Lane Kitchen, but if you’ve never been, I urge you to stop in. The photo opportunities are endless, and I promise you’ll leave feeling warm, happy, and FULL.
