Most Grammable North Fork Spots: Black Llama Bar

If you’ve visited Greenport before, odds are you’ve walked through Stirling Square. Maybe you stopped in for a pizza at 1943 or for a drink at the outside bar at American Beech (featured previously in this blog series). American Beech is one of the most impeccably designed spaces in the village, so it comes as no surprise that their new sister bar, Black Llama, is just as chic. While Beech is closed for the winter season, their neighboring bar just across the square is keeping its patrons (me) warm and cozy with a curated wine list, inventive craft cocktails and a small bar bites menu. The space is as hip as it gets, with mid-century modern furniture and bold wallpaper in stark contrast to the exposed wood ceiling beams. One might even forget, after one or two or three drinks, that they’re in Greenport at all!

The wine and cocktails are served in funky vintage glassware. The delicious cava comes in a flute much like the ones my parents drank out of at their wedding. There’s even a drink I’ve never been brave enough to order that is served in a delicate glass bird. I’m not sure how one drinks out of it, but it’s worthy of a photo either way. Make sure you get the perfect “cheers” boomerang with your friends before anyone is allowed to take their first sip! I promise, your friends love that!

Now, if you’ve read this blog before, you know I’m a huge advocate for bathroom selfies. Especially if the wallpaper is as incredible as it is in this bar. American Beech gave us flamingos, so it’s no wonder that Black Llama would follow suit. The bathroom walls are covered in large scale ZEBRA wallpaper, so it’s obviously the perfect spot for your next photo opportunity. Everybody looks good in black and white, right? So snap a selfie, throw on the Tokyo filter, and post it with no location tag. I guarantee you’ll get plenty of responses to your mysterious story from your followers and friends wanting to know where the HECK you are!

Every corner of the space is so intentionally decorated that no matter where you snag a seat, the backdrop will be perfect for any and all photos. No need to worry if your significant other is sick of being your personal Instagram photographer. Even if their heart’s not in it anymore, your photos are sure to turn out great. It’s a miracle what dim lighting, neon signs, and a few well-placed sconces can do for a sloppy attempt at an Instagram photo!

Don’t just take my word for it. Black Llama is open through the winter Friday-Sunday nights, so should you find yourself in Greenport one weekend, definitely make this bar one of your stops. And don’t be surprised if you see me and the rest of Team Lieb sipping drinks in a corner. Give us a wave, we’re still pretty friendly out in the real world, especially after a couple glasses of wine!
